Ben Lane and Sean Vendy’s involvement in the Japan Masters ended at the first-round stage after a valiant performance.
Up against the world no.19s Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan of Indonesia, the English pair took the lead before losing two tight games, going down 16-21 21-19 21-17.
Lane and Vendy established an early lead in the first game and never relinquished it as their advantage ballooned to eight points in Kumamoto.
The duo withstood a brief fightback from their opponents before closing out the opener at the second time of asking.

Kusumawardana and Rambitan slowly worked their way back into the match as the lead changed hands six times in the second game.
The Indonesian pair held their nerve to clinch the game and were never behind in the decider eventually winning by four points.
Lane and Vendy will next be in action at the China Masters event in Shenzhen which gets underway on 21 November.
