The Denmark Open begins in Odense tomorrow and there will be English involvement in two doubles events when action gets underway.

One of the most prestigious and hotly-contested events in the calendar, those involved will be looking to maintain momentum of English shuttlers after three silver medals were won at the YONEX Dutch Open last week.

In the men’s doubles, Ben Lane and Sean Vendy will be competing and will start their campaign against another unseeded pair, with Chinese Taipei duo Lu Ching-yao and Yang Po-han their first-round opponents.

Should they win their opening contest, Lane and Vendy will most likely face Indonesian third seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the second round.

Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith were set to be in women’s doubles action at the Arena Fyn, but the ankle injury Smith picked up in the final of the YONEX Dutch Open last weekend means they have withdrawn from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Callum Hemming and Jess Pugh will contest the mixed doubles event.

Hemming and Pugh have been drawn against Thai pairing Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran to begin with, with a potential second-round match against fifth seeds Jordan Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong awaiting them should they prevail.
