Badminton England are proud to be supporting the NSPCC Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week, raising awareness of the important role we all have in keeping children safe and happy in sport.
Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport is a national, year-round campaign with a focus week every October.
This year, the campaign continues to highlight and support the role parents and carers play in keeping their children safe while taking part in sport and activities.
At Badminton England, we encourage all parents to look for a club or activity that takes the safety and wellbeing of their child seriously.
It is never wrong to ask for more information when it comes to safeguarding. A Club should welcome questions about their activities and policies, providing you with contact details for their Club Welfare Officer.

Play Badminton Club run sessions for players of all abilities in the Northwood and Pinner area and believe the role of the Welfare Officer is key to ensuring a club offers a safe, positive and welcoming environment.
Their Club Welfare Officers and junior players have helped Badminton England produce a video to explain what the role is about and encourage all clubs to follow their practice.
They are not the only club providing a great example of how they support the wellbeing and welfare of their members.
Club Welfare Officer from Jarrow Badminton Club, Jeni Langley, contacted the Badminton England Safeguarding Team, and asked if they could share our Safeguarding QR Code Tags with their members. Jeni said: “I think the tags are a brilliant resource.”
The tags make Badminton England Safeguarding information and guidance easy to access and when Jarrow Badminton Club received theirs, their members had nothing but praise.
Helen Johnson said: “They’re a great idea as they give immediate, easily-accessible guidance. It’s especially important for us now that we have some new young members at our club.”
Michael Byrne added: “It’s all the information you need in one place.”
In keeping with the focus of this campaign, Badminton England Safeguarding Manager, Victoria Brown, said: “Parents and carers should be their child’s biggest supporter this #SafeinSport Week.
“Parents are an essential part of the safeguarding systems that should be in place for all sports. They need to know what makes their club safe and how to spot the signs that something might be wrong.
“I would encourage all parents and carers to take a look at the messages and resources from the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit that we will be sharing on our Social Media this week as part of this campaign.”
