Strength & Conditioning Coach: Charlie Kay
Strength and Conditioning Coach
Racket sports have always been my favourite challenge and the opportunity to work with the badminton athletes (all the way from the national squads to the pathway) was one that excited me. This is the area I’ve wanted to specialise in my whole career!
I have worked the whole spectrum of performance, from grassroots level all the way to world champions. I have worked in University sport, semi-professional sport and professional sport. Prior to this role, I was at a company called Performance Herts where I worked with a GB para swimmer, England Squash athletes and American Football athletes
We achieved a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Although we had previously won the world championships, the Tokyo medal meant more because we had to try and navigate a terrible preparation period where everything that could go wrong – did go wrong. The level of performance we achieved was probably the highlight so far
I was formerly a high level gymnast
